This Privacy Policy explains how the Basfoods Group collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information when you visit basfoods.com.au or basfoodswholesale.com.au, purchase our products, submit an enquiry, or otherwise deal with us.

1. Who we are

“Basfoods”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the Basfoods Group, made up of three related businesses:

• Basfoods Direct — The Trustee for Basfoods Direct Unit Trust, trustee Basfoods Direct Pty Ltd (ACN 137 784 055, ABN 41 182 606 080). Runs our retail supermarket and direct-to-consumer sales at basfoods.com.au.
• Basfoods International — The Trustee for Basfoods International Trust, trustee Basfoods International Pty Ltd (ACN 639 410 361, ABN 31 941 910 619). Runs national importing, wholesale distribution and warehousing.
• Basfoods (NSW) — Basfoods (NSW) Pty Ltd (ACN 159 872 018, ABN 20 159 872 018). Runs wholesale distribution, warehousing, logistics, sales and customer service for NSW and QLD.

If you enquire about wholesale through basfoodswholesale.com.au, your enquiry is handled by Basfoods International, unless you’re based in NSW or QLD, in which case it’s forwarded to Basfoods (NSW) to manage directly. Retail purchases through basfoods.com.au are handled by Basfoods Direct.

The three businesses share some admin and back-office functions and may share your information with each other where reasonably necessary to do this.

2. Information we collect and how

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect your name, contact details, business name and ABN, billing and delivery addresses, account and trade-account details, order and payment information, enquiry and support correspondence, marketing preferences, and technical information like device, browser and IP address.

We collect this directly from you (orders, enquiries, account sign-up, marketing sign-up), automatically via cookies, and from payment, delivery and other service providers we use. If you don’t give us information we reasonably need, we may not be able to process your order or enquiry.

We don’t see your full payment card details — our payment providers handle that and only pass us confirmation of the transaction.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to process orders and payments, manage your account, respond to enquiries, provide support, run and improve our website, understand how it’s used, prevent fraud, send marketing (where you’ve allowed it), and meet our legal obligations.

We won’t use it for anything unrelated without your consent or a legal basis to do so.

4. Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies to run the online store, remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. We use Shopify to run our store (Shopify’s cookie policy) and Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising for analytics and ads, which may use heatmaps and session recordings (Microsoft’s privacy statement).

You can control cookies through your browser. Turning them off may affect how parts of the site work.

5. Marketing

We may send you marketing by email or SMS where you’ve agreed to receive it. You can unsubscribe anytime via the link in the message or by contacting us. This won’t stop order or account-related messages.

6. Who we share it with

We may share your information within the Basfoods Group as described in section 1, and with the service providers we rely on to run our business: Shopify and other website/technology providers, payment processors, delivery and warehousing providers, our in-store point-of-sale, gift card and loyalty providers, and analytics and advertising providers like Microsoft. We may also share it with professional advisers, insurers, or regulators and authorities where the law requires it.

We don’t sell your personal information.

7. Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers, including Shopify and Microsoft, store or process information overseas, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, we take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information properly.

8. Security and how long we keep it

We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure and only hold it for as long as we reasonably need it for business or legal reasons, after which we delete or de-identify it. No online system is completely secure — contact us straight away if you think your account or information has been compromised.

9. Access, correction and complaints

You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it — contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity first.

If you think we’ve mishandled your personal information, contact us at admin@basfoods.com.au with enough detail for us to look into it. We’ll respond within a reasonable time. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner on 1300 363 992.

10. Shopping with Basfoods Direct in person

This section applies if you shop in person with Basfoods Direct rather than online.

We use CCTV and security cameras in-store for safety and security. Our in-store point-of-sale system is separate from our online store, so in-store purchase records aren’t currently linked to your online account.

We may also offer gift cards, a loyalty or membership program, or competitions and promotions from time to time. If you take part, we’ll collect the information needed to run that gift card, program or promotion, such as your card details, membership details, or entry details.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version, with its update date, is always available on our website.
